Books about travel experiences


 I read a lot and the following are some books I have read and really enjoyed, about unique travel experiences. They are listed in no particular order of preference and I will be updating the list frequently !

 

Into the Wild – Jon Krakauer (an amazing read about hiking Mount Everest)

Tales of a Female Nomad – Rita Golden Gelman (Amazing sorry about moving from LA and visiting some unique places in Mexico, Borneo, the Galápagos Islands etc)

African Nights – Kuki Gallmann (Great story about living in Kenya)

Rules of the Wild – Francesca Marciano (Another amazing story about life in Kenya and East Africa)

Guests of the Sheik – Elizabeth Warnock Fernando (Authors life living in Iraq over a 2 year period) 

Wild – Cheryl Strayed (Hiking in America and made into a film)

Three Cups of Tea – Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin (A mountaineer returns to help build a school after a failed attempt to climb K2) 

The White Massai – Corinne Hofmann (Unique love story about a tourist who falls in love with a Massai warrior)

The Puma Years – Laura Coleman (Amazing story about working in an animal sanctuary and a relationship with a puma)

Ireland to India with a Bicycle – Dervla Murphy (Published in 1965, a book about a female solo traveller who was a trailblazer)

A Bike Ride, 12000 miles around the World – Annie Mustoe (Another amazing book by an amazing women, an English ex-headmistress)

Under the Tuscan Sun – Frances Mayes (Book made into a film, about a lady making a life changing move overseas with a little bit of romance thrown in)

Eat, Pray, Love – Elizabeth Gilbert (Another book made into a film, about a lady making a life changing move overseas, with a little romance along the way)
